upgrading a small business network room
BEFORE
GOALS
- Convert office to VOIP phone system and remove traditional phone lines
- Maintain independent computer networks for each of the 2 separate businesses inside the office
- Install professional grade network switches with Power Over Ethernet (POE) capabilities to power new VOIP phones
- Relocate each's company's network servers to central location in the server room and build workstation
- Setup UPS battery backup for servers and network equipment
- Trace and test all network cables throughout the building and wire to patch panels
- Convert original traditional phone line cables to additional network cables
- Modify existing exhaust fan and add temperature sensor to keep network room cool
- Detangle and separate TV, network, phone and security camera wiring for clarity and ease of maintenance
- Maintain one traditional phone line per office for fax machines
- Convert credit card processing machines to work over ethernet instead of phone line
- Complete upgrades incrementally and after business to avoid business downtime
